Cynthia M. Ward Memorial Citizenship Award

 

The Cynthia M. Ward Memorial Citizenship Award is presented annually to honour the memory of Mrs. Cynthia M. Ward, principal of Rutherford School from 1985 to 1989.  Her family established the award after her death to recognize grade 5 or 6 students who demonstrate outstanding qualities of citizenship.

Purpose and Nature of the Award

The purpose of the award is to provide recognition annually to a grade 5 or 6 student(s) who exhibits outstanding citizenship.  (One or two students may be selected.)

The Cynthia M. Ward Citizenship Award will consist of:
-          a commemorative plaque - to be displayed in the school's main hallway
-          a small personal plaque for the student(s) own use and possession
-          a copy of a current children's literature award winning book (an bookplate is placed in the
           book)

Qualification Criteria

The grade five or six student is required to have:

-          maintained high academic standards in accordance with ability
-          demonstrated a special ability to work for and with others
-          participated actively in school activities and co-curricular organizations
-          demonstrated leadership skills and personal responsibility
-          demonstrated respect and school spirit
-          demonstrated outstanding efforts to dedicate time and energy to fulfilling a healthy
           student atmosphere and a positive attitude toward staff
